Weekend trips
Can't spare a full week? Or maybe you want to ease into multi-day walking?
We've designed short, self-guided weekend trips that allow you to test out
the Aarhus Camino experience in small chunks, accessible to ALL.

The South Coast
Difficulty level: Easy and for families
This is a perfect introduction to the beauty of the Aarhus region, offering a scenic journey that is neither too long nor too demanding.

Start at the neoclassical Vilhelmsborg Estate (accessible via light rail). Follow the Giber River through meadows rich with kingfishers until you reach Fulden, a "time-capsule" village of thatched roofs and yellow timber.
The trail continues toward Moesgaard Museum, plunging into the deep Moesgård Forest. Here, you'll discover Skovmøllen, a historic watermill turned restaurant, where the rushing waterwheel marks a perfect halfway point.
Ascend the beech-covered plateau—white with anemones in spring and golden in autumn—before descending the coastal cliffs to the rugged Mariendal Strand. End your day at Ajstrup Strand for camping/cabins, or walk 2km further to Norsminde for a hotel stay and fine dining

On the second day, wind back toward Aarhus through the coastal forests. You’ll pass the popular Fløjstrup and Moesgård beaches (perfect for a kiosk lunch) before entering the Marselisborg woods.
Highlights include:
-
Marselisborg Deer Park: Get up close with free-roaming deer.
-
The Infinite Bridge: Walk the famous circular pier over the sea.
-
Marselisborg Castle & Mindepark: Finish your journey at the Royal Family’s summer residence and the surrounding gardens.
Hills of Mols
Difficulty level: Medium
This three-day trek covers the highlights of Mols Bjerge National Park, moving from coastal ruins to glacial hills and ending in the historic town of Ebeltoft.

Start with explore the 14th-century Kalø Castle Ruins and its medieval stone dam. Follow the coastline before climbing inland through the Hestehave forest.
Arrive in Agri, the park’s highest village. Catch the sunset from Agri Bavnehøj (137m) for panoramic views of the bay. Stay the night at the cute hostel "På Toppen - Cafe og Herberg" where you can also have dinner.

On the second day, adventure on the "mountains" of Mols Bjerge. Hike to Trehøje, three bronze-age mounds offering 360-degree vistas over the heather-clad "dead-ice" landscape. Visit Poskær Stenhus, Denmark's largest Neolithic round barrow, and finally loop back to Agri through the grazing lands of Toggerbo.
On the last day, Head east into the deep beech and pine woods of the Mols Bjerge interior. Pass by Stubbe Sø, the area's largest lake, known for its birdlife, and finish discovering the cobblestone streets of Ebeltoft. Celebrate your finish at the historic harbor by the Fregatten Jylland.

Note: the walk on the third day can be shorten by taking a bus at several stages of the walk.

Samsø Beaches
Difficulty level: Medium - Difficult (beach walking)
This three-day itinerary takes you through the wilder, northern half of Samsø. You will experience the cozy village atmosphere of Nordby, the dramatic cliffs of the "Bakker," and the unique lagoon landscape of Stavns Fjord.

Hop on the ferry from Aarhus or Hou to Sælvig, head north along the scenic Sælvigbugten beach. The water is shallow and the sand is fine, making for a refreshing start. Reach the small, historic harbor of Mårup. This was once the primary link to the mainland and remains a peaceful spot for a break. Walk inland through the fields to reach Nordby. Often called Denmark's best-preserved village, it features yellow-washed half-timbered houses clustered around a central pond (Gadekær).

On the second day hike through the "hills" (Bakker). This is a dramatic glacial landscape of deep valleys (skår) and high cliffs. Climb Ballebjerg (64m), the highest point on the island, which features a small white watchtower with views across the sea to Aarhus and the Mols hills. Walk toward Issehoved, the northernmost point of Samsø. The land narrows into a sandy spit where two seas meet. Head back to Nordby for the night.

On the last day, walk east to Mårup Østerstrand and follow the coastline to the tiny fishing hamlet of Langør, overlooking the bird sanctuary. Head south through Stavns along the shallow Stavns Fjord. Finally, cross back to the west side of the island to conclude your trek at Sælvig
